I am a native of North Dakota and am a graduate of North Dakota State University with a BA in Art.
A good portion of my work is done in silkscreen printing. I like color, this is a color, stencil process.
I start with a pencil sketch, this becomes a guide for the stencils. Each color requires a separate run.
The stencil is placed on the silkscreen, a squeegee is used to force the paint through the open areas
of the screen, the color is allowed to dry, then another stencil is applied for the next run. My prints
average about ten color runs. There is an element of adventure in silk-screening since the final outcome
isn't fully conceivable until the last color run is applied.
The theme for my artwork comes from the forms and colors in nature. Flowers are my favorite form of expression
for they so eloquently communicate the properties of the life cycle with their beautiful colors and shapes.
A forming bud, a wilted or broken leaf, the strong line of a stem, precise distinctive color all help convey a
life cycle which is delicate, powerful and mysterious. There is an underlying timelessness.
Some of my other works include monoprints; etchings; paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor; photography; and sculpture.
